Timely Tip

Caveman Valentine's Gifts

What would Cavemen have given to their Cave-sweetie on Valentine's Day?

If people celebrated something like Valentine's Day ten thousand years ago (and why not?), just like today they would have given each other something of value.

Gifts for Your Cavegirl

In Caveman times, gifts of value might have been shells or animal's teeth. People used to collect these on strings just like beads and use them for money.

Translated today: Jewelry

Why not buy your Cavegirl a classy pendant or some earrings this Valentine's Day?

Another gift offered by a Caveman to his gal would have been a tasty animal, freshly-caught by his expert hunting and ready for roasting.

Today, fresh meat is slightly out-of-vogue as a gift, so do the next best thing and take her to dinner.

Find a nice place with tasty Caveman options like seafood, meat, salads and steamed vegetables. Skip the carbs and add a glass of wine as a prelude to romance (Cavemen had grapes, too).

And how about those Valentine's chocolates?

Nix on those -- Cavemen didn't have sugar. So buy your Cave-cutie some flowers instead.

Gifts for Your Caveman

What would a Cavegirl have given to her beloved Caveman? Something he could use in his hunting.

For example, she may have made him some handmade string for his bow-and-arrows or a pouch to hold rocks for his sling.

Translated today: A gift certificate to Fry's or Best Buy, where your Caveman can get the latest gear that he "needs."

Or make your Caveman a delicious Caveman dinner, such as a tender fillet mignon with asparagus and a glass of red wine. That way, you'll both stay Cave-slim.

Love and the Caveman Diet

And by the way...

Reduced-calorie diets like the Caveman Diet increase physical drive in women and improve sexual function in men.

So following the Caveman Diet yourself may be the best present you can give to your sweetie.

Reorganizing Your Fridge,
Caveman-Style

In the last newsletter, I described how my mom and I "Caveman-ed" my parents' refrigerator. We took out all the Non-Caveman Foods and left in the healthy Caveman Foods.

This really opened up space in the refrigerator. So this week, we reorganized the fridge.

We put each type of Caveman Food on a separate level. That way, my parents know where everything is and can easily see when something is running low.

Here's how we reorganized it...

My Parents' Caveman Fridge, Reorganized

First Level (top): Drinks -- orange juice, unsweetened almond milk, mineral water

Second Level: Protein -- cooked chicken, cooked ground turkey, egg whites

Third Level: Fruit -- apples, oranges, bananas, pears and lemons, kept in plastic bags and large bowls

Fourth Level: Leftovers and Cut-up Vegetables -- leftover salad from a restaurant meal, chopped vegetables, washed lettuce kept in a salad spinner

Fifth Level (vegetable bins): Vegetables -- broccoli, carrots, bok choy, cabbage, sweet potatoes, onions, lettuce, cucumbers, mushrooms, bell pepper, eggplant, etc.

Side Compartments: Condiments -- mustard, salsa, lemon juice, lime juice, olives, almond butter

Freezer: Frozen Meat, Fish and Vegetables -- frozen chicken breast cutlets, frozen ground turkey meat, frozen mixed vegetables, frozen broccoli

There you have it: my parents' fridge completely remodeled.

Why not try reorganizing your fridge Caveman-style? It's like giving your refrigerator--and your family's health--a Valentine's gift.

  • The Smart-Carb Guide to Eating Out: Fast-Food and Family Restaurants (Penguin-Avery, 2005) is a healthy Zone- based guidebook that makes eating out and staying slim easy. It provides you with over 900 pre-calculated meals at thirty-six fast food and family-style restaurants.
  •
  • The Dessert Diet is a Zone-based eating plan that helps you enjoy healthy meals and lose weight while eating three real desserts a day.

Tracy holds a Master's Degree in Biology from the University of California at Davis and a Credential in Adult Education from the University of California at Berkeley Extension. She is a rigorously-trained scientist and an expert in Zone Diet-based nutrition, fast food and convenience food health values, and food macronutrient values.

  • Tracy was introduced to the Zone Diet in 2000 by her mother and became a quick convert to the diet after it helped her lose thirty pounds and heal from health problems.

Because the meals in Tracy's books are balanced based on Zone Diet principles, people who eat them are able to enjoy their favorite treats while staying slim and healthy.

Tracy regularly follows her own diets, dining at fast food restaurants like McDonald's and Burger King and eating meals from
The Dessert Diet. Her favorite desserts are ice cream and chocolate.

Tracy enjoys helping people enjoy the best life has to offer, including great health, delicious food, and happiness.
