Just Finished Two Book Signings and a Nutrition Seminar
at the Riata Apartments in Austin, Texas
A couple of weeks ago, I gave two book signings for The Caveman Diet at Pure Austin Fitness, where I work as a nutritionist. A number of people showed up and asked great questions about nutrition and the Caveman Diet.
On Tuesday, I presented a seminar called "How to Eat Healthy at Any Restaurant." It was a part of the Nutrition Seminar Series that I present as the On-site Nutritionist for the Riata Apartment Community.
(By the way, if you have any doubt as to what state Riata is located in, check out the long horn showing on the wall behind me.)
In the seminar, we discussed a variety of ways to eat healthy at restaurants, including eating Caveman-style, Zone-style, eating vegetables and protein first, eating slowly and "boxing it" or taking half or more of your meal to go.
The talk was enthusiastically received. I heard back the next day that many people used the techniques soon after to eat healthier at a restaurant. Keep it up!
You've been diligent, you're motivated, you've tried your best.
But sometimes life just throws you for a loop -- and that diet you've been so good about following goes out the window.
How can you quickly get back on your plan?
The first thing I like to tell people is that falling off a diet plan is not bad. People have times in their lives that get stressful and overwhelming.
During times of stress, many people tend to eat more food or eat less-healthy foods to calm their emotions.
This is just a part of being human, so don't feel bad about it.
Stress-eating is an adaptive mechanism that many animals, including humans, employ to ensure that they have enough energy stored up during times of environmental stress.
So, now that you're feeling better about things, choose a time to get back on your plan when your stress level has leveled off.
It's much easiest to begin or get back on a diet when you're feeling happier and more in the driver's seat of your life. As soon as you feel in a better place in your life, go ahead and get right back on your diet or eating plan.
Don't worry if you've tried to get back on it a number of times and weren't able to do it. Now that you're feeling better, it will come more naturally to you to follow your plan.
Just be sure that it's a plan that you enjoy and that gives you energy.
Soon you'll be back in the saddle, riding towards better health, more energy and a fitter physique that feels great! |
